Book IconPublished on: 2007.02.28

Don't let the season pass you by! A summer specialty, look for fresh figs, one of the sweetest fruits, from early June through late August. Grown in California's San Joaquin Valley; hand picked and tray packed to assure the highest quality. Eat whole, peeled or unpeeled; the tiny seeds inside are edible. [www.QinSen.com]

Dark purple skins with light strawberry colored flesh. [www.QinSen.com]
Calimyrna [www.QinSen.com]
Yellowish-green on the outside with pale pink flesh.
Kadota
Green skins with amber colored flesh; slightly less sweet than the other two varieties.
Selection:
Look for figs that are soft and smell sweet. Handle carefully because their fragile skins bruise easily.

Storage:
Store fully ripened figs in the refrigerator up to 2 days; bring to room temperature before serving.
