Named for its resemblance to a pine cone. Native to Central and South America, Hawaii, now this fruits leading producer, didnt see its first pineapple until the late 1700s. All varieties have bumpy, diamond patterned skins. Slight flavor variations depending on variety, but all are juicy and sweet. [www.QinSen.com]
