It's native to Peru but also grows in New Zealand, California and other subtropical and temperate climates. Pepino is also known as Mellowfruit, Treemelon and Sweet Cucumber. This exotic-looking fruit has a smooth, glossy, golden skin streaked with violet. It can range in size from a plum to a large papaya. The perfumy yellow-gold flesh is somewhat juicy and mild tasting, like a combination of cantaloupe and cucumber. [www.QinSen.com]
